I am Michael R Haines and I offer consultancy on greenhouse gas abatement technology through my company, Cofree Technology Limited. I set the company up in order to be in a position to provide technical advice and services in this field to selected clients.

I am a chartered a chemical engineer with extensive experience in the heavy petrochemical and upstream oil exploration production industry. I studied Chemical engineering at Cambridge University and subsequently worked for Shell International in the heavy petrochemicals and upstream oil and gas business. Towards the end of my career I developed a great interest in technologies which would enable the established fossil energy industries to deal with the looming climate change crisis. Through this interest I was able, on retirement from full time employment, to take a part time position with the International Energy Agency Greenhouse Gas Research and Development program which is based in Cheltemham UK.  Through this work  and my recent consulting and journal article review activities I remain at the forefront of many of the developments in this area.

If you are a company or institution seeking some expert support and guidance on reducing green house gas emissions I can advise on the options and assist in developing them. Just give me a call on +44 (0)1297 561510 or send an email to mhainescofreetech@btinternet.com and I will be happy to discuss your needs.

CO2 reuse in greenhouses in Holland

After graduating from  Cambridge in 1968, Mike began his career as a chemical engineer with Shell International. During his 33 years of service with Shell he worked in facility operations, facility design, project management and HSE management in the heavy petrochemicals and the upstream oil and gas industry. Towards the end of his time with Shell, Mike became involved in the carbon capture and storage arena, which was a new and emerging field of technology. He is thus in the  fortunate position of having worked in the carbon sequestration sector from the beginning and consequently has a deep understanding of the processes which produce greenhouse gas emissions and the technologies and systems which can be deployed to reduce them.

Carbon Capture and Storage is a technology which can play a major role in meeting reduction targets for green house gas emissions. Its deployment would need to be an a truly massive scale on par with other major energy infrastructures such as power generation and oil and gas production. It is a technology with much promise but also with significant opponents who might point out its high cost, its prolongation of fossil fuel dependence, its additional fossil fuel requirements and risks associated with storing large amounts of CO2 underground....
